Southern Baked Barbecue Chicken Breast

In this post I’ll be sharing a delicious Southern Baked Barbecue Chicken Breast recipe.

Classic Southern Baked BBQ Chicken is one of those meals most of us grew up with. It’s a popular and easy way to prepare supper. Serve alongside coleslaw, baked beans and corn on the cob…..can’t you just taste it!

I prepared this chicken with my homemade Old Fashioned BBQ Sauce but you can certainly use your favorite bottled sauce too. I have to say there is something special about the super easy homemade sauce though. It seems to adhere very well to the chicken while baking and results in beautiful baked barbecue chicken.

Julia, Your recipe was so easy to follow and your wording was great. Now on to the chicken... Fantastic with regular bbq sauce or Carolina white sauce. You kept the basic spices on the skin. They were not overboard as my wife complains I do. Just basic down home food. Thank you for taking your time and look forward to trying more of your southern recipes. TJ

I'm 75 and can't tell you how many times I have baked Bar b Que chicken. This was just the BEST. I cooked 2 chicken breast. They were Sweet and juicy and cooked through. Should never have given my usually well behaved cats a taste. They stalked me all over the house. Have lots left for soup or salad

Surprisingly simple and a perfect contrast to some tangy mashed potatoes and savory green beans. The is the best method of oven BBQ I've tried by far. Slow and steady, no globs of sauce and makes a wonderful crust.

Perfect! Easy. I’m only cooking for two so made 2 split breast in a 8 inch square Corning ware dish. Made your sauce too! Followed your complete recipe and they turned out looking just like yours. Tender and juicy. The molasses in the sauce really helps it adhere to the chicken. Thanks so much for sharing!
