Southern Buttermilk Pie Recipe

In this post I’m sharing the recipe for a Southern favorite, a Southern Buttermilk Pie recipe.

If you’ve never had buttermilk pie, you may be wondering what does buttermilk pie taste like. Does it taste like buttermilk? Buttermilk is used in many desserts and no that buttermilk taste is not what you’ll notice, in case you’re not a fan.

This classic southern pie is a delicious custard like treat!

I remember the first time that I had this classic Southern dessert. It wasn’t at my grandmother’s house, it was at a café for lunch.

I had to try it and just fell in love with it. You’ll love it too!

How to make Southern Buttermilk Pie Recipe

Add lemon zest, lemon juice, buttermilk, vanilla, and salt – mix to combine.

Add filling to the pie shell. If you like, brush the edges of the crust with egg wash (1 beaten egg mixed with a teaspoon of water or milk).

Cooks Note: I prefer to place my pie shell on a foil lined baking sheet before filling. It makes transferring to the oven easier and prevents spills in the oven.
