Easy Peanut Butter Fudge Bars

Easy Peanut Butter Fudge Bars are a simple no bake candy dessert. They are a perfect homemade holiday gift option.

"Gifts of time and love are surely the basic ingredients of a truly merry Christmas" ~ Peg Bracken

There is no special equipment needed for this candy. With just a few simple ingredients you will have a delicious treat. You may have seen similar recipes. The star ingredient of this confection is powdered sugar. It's one of the easiest recipes ever. I've been making it for years now and everyone loves it. I also happen to be a huge lover of peanut butter and have always preferred peanut butter fudge. Taste testing is complete bliss for me!

Crock Pot Chocolate Peanut Butter Candy

Crock Pot Chocolate Peanut Butter Candy is an easy homemade treat, perfect for giving during the holiday season. The season of giving! Christmas is approaching and I began a tradition years ago of making homemade gifts rather than shopping for commercial items people may not want or need. These homemade gifts have a special part of me, my time and love in making them. I think that adds a special touch. By making my own gifts I have plenty to share with family, friends, and neighbors.

Southern Breeze Cold Brew & Peach Turkey Meatball Appetizers

This post was sponsored by Southern Breeze Sweet Tea. All opinions expressed in this post are my own. Thank you Southern Breeze, you're a real sweetie!

The holidays are upon us. A time that friends and families gather together.

We've recently moved to a new house and a new town. It's time to meet new friends and chat over a glass of iced tea. I decided to host a very small "meet the neighbors" get together. I served a few appetizers, Including Peach Turkey Meatballs, along with 4 delicious flavor options of Southern Breeze Cold Brew Sweet Tea. A sweet tea bar if you will.

Prime Rib

Prime Rib or Beef Rib Roast, as you'll likely find it labeled at the market, certainly falls under the special occasion meal. It's a pricey cut of beef. You'll find this delicious prime cut of beef gracing the Christmas table of many homes for holiday gatherings. After all it has been just a month ago that we were stuffing our faces with turkey and you may want something different.  If you're lucky enough to catch it on sale, as I did, a prime rib makes for a great special dinner for a loved one's birthday too and perfect for dinner parties. While it may be a more expensive beef product, you'll be able to feed six or more people for the price you would pay for a prime rib dinner for two at a restaurant.

Old Fashioned Applesauce Cake

Do you have dessert recipes that have been a long tradition in your family? For me, it's this Old Fashioned Applesauce Cake. I cannot recall one holiday throughout my childhood and into my 20's that this cake was not a part of our holidays. It was my grandmother's signature cake. She had mastered this vintage recipe and never used a recipe card to bake it. She had it all locked away to memory. Each Thanksgiving and Christmas she would bake this cake in the same flute pan year after year and we all very much looked forward to our share. I remember helping to gather the pecans that had fallen during season, helping to shell them,  that would eventually be used in this cake. In my mind I can still smell the crisp fall air and see my little hands search through fallen leaves to find the pecans.

Most of us don't like the idea of wasting a lot of food if we can help it either. Here are a few recipes ideas to help you reinvent those holiday leftovers for something new to put on the dinner table.

Aunt Betty's Famous Ham Dressing

This is not your ordinary recipe for dressing. This is my Aunt Betty's Famous Ham Dressing! It's my first "NEW" recipe post from our new home. The thing is, it's not really a new recipe. It's an old family recipe, shared with me, and is probably older than I am. It was the traditional signature dish that my aunt would bring to family holiday gatherings. This was back when there were over 20 of us gathered at my grandparents home. I still have the memories of those holiday meals. Everyone would bring a dish to contribute. It was a true feast. Eventually the large gatherings faded away as older cousins left home and had families of their own. We still made a point to go around and visit relatives close by during holidays however. One stop was always to my Aunt Betty's house.

Breaded Turkey Breast Cutlets

Breaded Turkey Cutlets are a great way to enjoy turkey anytime of the year. They are also a budget friendly and perfect for intimate holiday meals.

I'm the first to admit, I love playing hostess during the holidays. I am one of those people who enjoy cooking a feast for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Big meals like that can easily cost a couple of hundred dollars. Yikes!

Cooking is not everyone's cup of tea, I get that. Life happens too! It's a fact. Maybe there's just you, or two of you to cook for. Perhaps you're a young family living on a tight budget. People lose spouses. Parents become empty nesters and you're sharing the kids with other families at holidays or the family just can't make it together. Turkey cutlets are a great alternative to roasting a big bird. You can make a small scale dinner in less than 30 minutes. That means you're not spending the day in the kitchen and you could have this meal any night of the year.

Country Apple Butter

A touch of fall is in the air. In the South, that means apple season. The stifling humidity has lessened a great deal, so a trip to the apple orchard is really pleasant. You can't beat fresh local apples this time of year!

Salmon and Asparagus Sheet Pan Dinner

Salmon and Asparagus Sheet Pan Dinner is a delicious and easy meal, ready in just 20 minutes.

I had not intended on posting a recipe for this dish originally. After posting a photo on Facebook, I received a lot of questions about preparing salmon. Fish can be an intimidating menu item if you've never made it, even for myself. The first time I am experimenting with a new ingredient there is that sense of uncertainty, of "what will happen". I'm here to tell you that preparing a fresh salmon filet is about as easy as you can get.

Southern Skillet Fried Apples

Fall is not all about the pumpkin y'all! Apples orchards are full of ripe fruit just waiting to be picked. There are apple festivals going on this time of year. The air has a hint of coolness to it after a long hot summer. As the old saying goes "An apple a day keeps the doctor away". Well nobody specified how those apples could be prepared before you eat them and there are countless ways. The intoxicating aromas of cinnamon and spices filling the air.

Beefy Noodle Soup

Beefy Noodle Soup is a homemade classic comfort food. Simple ingredients with the addition of herbs and seasonings make a flavorful meal. Leftovers are great too!

If you happen to be planning ahead and making freezer meals to use later, follow the recipe without adding the noodles. You can freeze the soup base and add the noodles when you plan to eat the soup later. Noodles don't hold up well once cooked and frozen.

Blackberry Grits

Blackberry Grits! Before you go thinking this Southern girl has gone crazy, just hear me out. I am always happy to find places I enjoy for the occasional breakfast or brunch out. This dish was inspired from such an outing to a great place called Another Broken Egg Cafe. The restaurant seems to be quite popular and has locations all over the US.

My first visit here, I was reading over the menu and came across Blackberry Grits. My first thought was "Why would anyone do that to grits?" but I was intrigued. Don't get me wrong, I'm never giving up my traditional grits with salt, pepper and butter. I call those my everyday grits. Blackberry grits however are something I now enjoy on occasion. My intrigue for this dish grew stronger as a server at the restaurant went walking by, with you guessed it, blackberry grits. They looked wonderful! I like blackberries and I like grits. So, why not together? My mind was settled, I was going to order it and give it a try!

Stewed Beef Tips and Rice

Stewed Beef Tips, served over rice or buttered noodles, is a time tested favorite recipe. The method of stewing meats has been around since people started cooking. It remains popular today because it is easy and delicious. Back in ancient times it was probably much easier to prepare meats this way since they were cooking in a pot over open fire. The old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" pops into mind.

Lemon Poppyseed Bread with Lemon Glaze

Poppy seeds, the slate blue goodies used in baking pastries and breads that we've come to love. They add a slight crunch to each bite of your baked goods. Poppy seeds are used in other areas of cooking, such as making dressings. My favorite by far is the combination with lemon, in a Lemon Poppyseed Bread with a lemon glaze. It's so easy to prepare and bake. This scratch made bread is great served at breakfast, for snacks or a dessert.

The batter in this recipe takes just a couple of minutes to prepare and can also be used to make muffins if preferred. After baking and the glaze is mixed, then drizzled over the bread loaves, the cook gets first slice and gets to dab each bite into the leftover glaze. AHHH, the perks of being the cook in the family!

Baked Ham and Egg Cups

Baked Ham and Egg Cups are an easy to prepare breakfast. Add some cheese if you please 😉
Breakfast cups bake in the oven, so they're perfect for back to school mornings or when you have guests to feed. You can make one, or up to a dozen at a time, with minimal ingredients.

We all have those mornings where it's busy and just don't have time to stand over a stove, right? You still want to have a healthy breakfast. The oven does all of the work for you. With a muffin pan to add your ingredients to, you're good to go!

Cucumber Salad

We are in the midst of the growing season in the South so the cucumbers are plentiful. What do you do with all those cucumbers? Top salads, make pickles, slice them and sprinkle with a touch of salt for snacks. Yes to all of those, and of course, make the classic old fashioned Cucumber Salad. It's likely you remember your grandmother making this cool summer side dish. When it's hot, cool refreshing side dishes are always welcome.

Smothered Chicken

Smothered Chicken, a delicious homemade meal of fall off the bone tender chicken in gravy. We love our fried foods in the South and we love gravy too. Marrying these two into a dish is surely something special. Just imagine how a piece or two of this smothered chicken served on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes or fluffy rice will be......AMAZING! Best of all, it's a simple recipe and most of the work is done in the oven.
