Sausage Cabbage Skillet Meal

In this post I am sharing how to make a Sausage Cabbage Skillet Meal.

This easy one pot skillet meal is perfect for a quick homemade dinner. If you like serve it with a side of pan fried potatoes.

Smoked sausage and pan fried cabbage are a delicious combination and great for quick weeknight dinners. The recipe takes just a few ingredients too, making it budget friendly. 

If you’re following a low carb diet plan this is a delicious recipe to add to your menu rotation. 

Ingredients

  • Smoked Beef Sausage , or the flavor of your choice
  • A small to medium Head of Cabbage, sliced
  • Bacon Fat ( I keep a jar in the fridge, don’t y’all?!? )
  • Cooking Oil
  • Butter
  • Salt, Cracked Black Pepper, & Onion Powder
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add bacon fat and cooking oil.
 
Slice smoked sausage and add to skillet.

Slice Cabbage and set aside.

Easy Sausage and Cabbage Low Carb

Cook sliced sausage until it begins to brown, 5-10 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.
 
Add sliced cabbage to skillet and season with salt, pepper, and onion powder to taste. Add butter and cook cabbage until desired tenderness, stirring occasionally, 20-25 minutes.

Add smoked sausage back to the skillet with the cabbage and stir to combine.

Looks like a delicious meal for fall! I do like to cook with bacon grease as well. I don't have a jar in the fridge (that's a thought though) but whenever I cook bacon, I always use the grease to make something else as well!

Thank you Michelle! Typically cooler months I use more bacon grease for those rich and savory meals but always keep it on hand. That's something I carried over seeing it in the fridge growing up ;)

I have been making this dinner for years, I call it Grandpa's sausage and cabbage. And yes, I was brought up on bacon and keep bacon grease in my refer. I also fry potatoes with bacon and onion and serve it with this dinner along with applesauce...Wonderful dinner and so down home...
