Palmetto Roses and Ways to Use Them

Today, Palmetto Roses are a keepsake that symbolizes everlasting love. The tradition dates back to the Civil War. Traditions tell that southern ladies would give their true love the palmetto rose before he went off to war to keep him safe.

I recently shared in a post about my weekend in Charleston buying a new sweetgrass basket and the artist giving me a few palmetto roses with my purchase (shown in photo above).

I used my palmetto roses to make a simple centerpiece using a small dairy bottle. It’s so simple, a bit rustic, and perfectly beautiful.

This idea got me curious and wondering what other ways these “everlasting love roses” might be used. I was delighted to see the creative ways I found during my search and am going to share some of those with you.

I am getting all sorts of ideas for holiday decor and not just for Christmas. What great accessories for fall and Thanksgiving decor as well. My fall centerpiece is definitely going to include “love roses”.

These are so pretty and your ideas are so original. They are the same palm leaves we get in our churches on Palm Sunday. Our tradition dictates that they are formed in the shape of a cross and brought home and saved to bless our homes. Pinning!

Hey, it’s so inspirational post on palmetto roses and ways to use them. Thanks a lot for sharing photos. Our first anniversary is coming in a month and we will have DIY family party at local lofty spaces in New York City. I would definitely make these roses for party decor.
