June Monthly Observations

Check out all the month long national days for June!

National Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Month -  What a great time to celebrate fresh fruits and vegetables! Lots of options at their peak locally to pick from the garden or pick up from the farmer's market.

National Iced Tea Month - I'll take mine sweet, of course! A glass of iced tea and a rocking chair couldn't be more perfect on a warm June day.

National Country Cooking Month & National Soul Food Month -  Is all southern cooking soul food? I've had a lot of people ask me if there is a difference. I think it depends on who you ask. Everyone seems to have an opinion. My own opinion is that there are many different influences all over the south with our cooking, they all are Southern Cooking or known to some as Country Cooking but each is unique. Some are creole, some are influence by the countries of our ancestors, and some are soul food. Soul food generally is thought of as the food type influenced by African roots and Native Americans. Whatever you prefer to call it, it's all good eats to me!

National Turkey Lover's Month - That's right, June is turkey lover's month! Turkey is not just for holidays. Enjoy it all year long. There are so many options these days with turkey cutlets, tenderloins, ground turkey, or whole turkey for roasting.

National Dairy Month -  National Dairy Month started out as National Milk Month in 1937 as a way to promote drinking milk. Today it is dairy month to celebrate all the varieties of dairy products we enjoy from milks, cheeses, butters, and ice cream!
