Classic 3 Bean Salad

Classic Three Bean Salad is a favorite at gatherings. An easy recipe that can be made in advance and chilled. Just give a quick stir before serving.

Colonial Pasta Salad

Colonial Dressing from Bob Evan's is a favorite of ours. I decided to make a pasta salad with it and it's a winner! Cool and perfect on a hot day.


  • 1 lb Pasta, I used Casarecce - pronounced "KAH-SAH-REY-CHEY" cooked according to directions.
  • 1 Red Onion, diced

Deep South Dish - Old Fashioned Creamed Squash

I saw a post on my friend Mary's Blog Facebook Post for this Creamed Squash. It looked so delicious and I've never had squash like this and decided I just had to have it! I made it for dinner and it was as delicious as it looked. I love Mary's recipes and have a copy of her cookbook in my collection.

Simple Blackberry Cobbler


  • 12-16 oz Fresh Blackberries (about 2 cups) , frozen will work thawed

Wilted Lettuce Salad a.k.a Killed Lettuce

Have you ever heard of Killed Salad, Scalded Lettuce, Wilted Lettuce, Kilt Lettuce, Wilted Salad or Killed Lettuce? It's a traditional Appalachian dish. I had never heard of it before until I was reading a post from Blind Pig & The Acorn I'm always intrigued by the many traditions of southern cooking and how they can vary in different regions. This is a basic dish of torn lettuce and green onions dressed in a hot oil such as bacon grease, butter or olive oil and perhaps a dash of sugar. Have you ever had it?

Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler

  • 2 c Fresh Sliced Peaches, can use frozen too in simple syrup (recipe follows)
