Simple Pea Salad Recipe

In this post I’ll be sharing a Simple Pea Salad Recipe.

English Peas are the star ingredient in this classic favorite side dish. This make ahead refrigerator salad is made with a few pantry staple ingredients. Pea salad is a simple dish and this is how mama made it growing up. I’ve heard from any readers that this is how they grew up eating it too.

These days there are versions with a lot more ingredients like bacon and cheese. You can choose how fussy you’d like your recipe to be but I prefer it simple.

Ingredients:

  • 15 oz. can of  Le Sueur Young/Small Sweet Peas (drained)
  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 2 Tablespoons Mayonnaise, I use Dukes
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Drain the peas well then transfer them into a small bowl and mix together with the rest of the ingredients. Cover and chill until ready to serve. There are variations to this recipe out there, but this is the simple recipe I always use.

This chilled side dish is great when the weather gets hot. Because it has been refrigerated it just seems so refreshing on a hot day.

This is the way I remember it. There was no cheese, but I seem to recall my mom adding a little vinegar with the mayo.

This is the way my Mama made it and I do too. But without the onion. I love it. I have been eating it for over 80 years, I STILL love it.
